Why Mornings with Jesus are Always Better

Faith

9 Apr

Mornings with Jesus are always better.

Yet, I marvel at how my prayer times have morphed and changed over the years. As a little girl in a God-fearing home, I practiced a mix of heartfelt prayers (no doubt inspired by my mother’s example) and the rote prayers I learned in Sunday School.

Many years later and thousands of miles from home, my college prayers were frankly bland and obligatory. I knew God was there, but my prayers were somewhere between the usual thanksgiving prayers and ‘Lord, please forgive me’. There’s something about being single in New York that will influence you in ways unimaginable.

But thankfully, it was also in New York that my life took a turn for the better. Choosing for the very first time to make Jesus lord of my life, my prayers became an anchor for my faith – seeing me through some of the proverbial lowest lows and highest highs.

Fast forward nearly twenty-five years and my time with God continues to be my favorite part of my day.

Mornings with Jesus are always better, especially when life feels uncertain or distractions are calling your name. Jesus offers hope and fresh grace daily.

Mornings with Jesus

For me, mornings are so much better with Jesus.

I truly look forward to my time with God very early in the morning – just me, my Bible and coffee. In those quiet moments when the world and my family are still fast asleep, I find solace and new hope.

But as I’m sure you’ve seen for yourself, not every morning is the same.

Some mornings feel like a wild, mad rush to get to the next urgent item on my to-do list. Others are a blur of ‘what to fix for school lunch’ amidst remorse for having stayed up way too late.

I must admit on those mornings I feel a tinge of guilt and annoyance. Guilt at feeling like I’ve let God down and annoyance at myself for managing my time so poorly and making unwise choices.

Neither emotion is healthy or helpful.

When I get to that place, I’m reminded of a favorite verse that spoke to me in one of the most challenging periods of my life. A time when life looked as far from perfect as it could ever be.

Psalm 121 is one of my favourite scriptures in the Bible! Full of God’s everlasting promises. Loved your post. I’m encouraged to meet God in the morning. It’s been difficult with a newborn but I pray I will get back into the swing of things again soon😊

Mornings with Jesus are my mainstay! I, too, love my morning coffee date with Jesus. I get up at four so I can have quiet time and enjoy it without stress. Headed over to see the rest of the post!

Wow, I love mornings but I’m not usually up that early, Anita. I think 5 is typically the earliest I can be coherent. Lol.
So good to see you here today!
